keep to the path

In the autumn, I had a wonderful time finding all kinds of fungi, large ones, small ones, tall and short ones, fat and thin ones, plain and colourful ones, edible and poisonous ones in fact it was a wonderful adventure.

I went off the beaten track more than once and found myself hanging onto branches and slipping down muddy banks.

I was thinking about this and it reminded me that sometimes if we're not careful we can get caught up in things that seem wonderful and even maybe inspiring but in fact have taken us off the path that the we're supposed to be on, the straight and narrow way, it is so easy for us to get distracted by worldly things and before we know it we've lost track of our spiritual journey and gone away from our guide on some trip of our own.

Most of the fungi I saw was harmless but some was downright dangerous,

some of our activities may seem harmless but if they are interfering with our spiritual life and our walk with the Lord then they are downright dangerous and we need to abandon them and get back on track. There is only one path that is safe and that is the path the Lord leads us on, don't get distracted by the seemingly beautiful harmless worldly activities.

Psalm 16:11
You will show me the path of life;
in Your presence is fullness of joy;
at Your right hand are pleasure for evermore.
