It's a Stinkhorn!!
apparently, it's called
a Stinkhorn (I really should do my research first) when I saw it on day two it
was covered in flies would you believe it attracts them on purpose.
I was too late on the
third day to catch it actually blooming, it gives off this awful smell to
attract flies which then eat it but while doing so are covered in spores which
they then fly off with and it therefore is spread all over the woods, clever
isn't it?
I was thinking about this, the way that it
sacrificed itself in order to spread, in order that it's species would carry
on. In the Bible, we are told of the way that the Pharisees were disgusted at
the way Jesus associated Himself with sinners and tax collectors, but they were
attracted to Him because He didn't prejudge them but gave them assurance of
forgiveness and acceptance. Jesus died for the unlovely and the unlovable as
well as everyone else.
After His death, the disciples filled with the
Holy Spirit gave themselves sacrificially for the spreading of the gospel in
all kinds of ways, they gave of their time, talents, wisdom, love etc. and some
even gave their lives paying the ultimate sacrifice. They were a sweet-smelling
aroma of love pointing the way to Jesus and salvation. Are we I wonder prepared
to sacrifice for the spreading of the gospel that all men might know the truth
and be set free? Wherever we are God has given us all we need to do His will
for His kingdom, if we are walking in His love we too will be a sweet-smelling
aroma attracting lost souls to Him.
And walk in love as Christ also has loved us and
given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling
aroma. Ephesians 5:2
