We had a wonderful challenging word this morning from a dear brother.
Standing fast, holding fast to the truth. He challenged us all to share the
gospel of Jesus Christ, and to stand against false teachings, and false
Christs. We must, whenever the case arises show from scripture those things that
would lead men astray. Many so called Christian churches do not belong to
Christ, they are, as scripture says of those who practise religion without
walking in truth, whitewashed graves, they are well looked after from the
outside but inside they are putrid. Such are those who would convince men of a
Christless gospel. Oprah confesses to be a Christian but does not confess
Christ, this lady is deceived, and it is the enemy of our souls who is
deceiving her.
Satan deceived
Eve at the very beginning, "Did God, really say?" He has not changed
that tactic, still he whispers into the ears of those who lack discernment
"Does God, really say that?" And so, we have Satan sowing weeds among
the wheat (the true church). The Catholic
system would have you believe that confessing to a priest gives you
forgiveness, (it does not), it would have you believe that Mary intercedes on your behalf,
(No, she does not) that is not what God's Word says. There is one mediator
between man and God, and that is Christ Jesus.
We were
challenged to stand against all these heresies when we come across them, surely
if we love as we should we would not want anyone to continue the path of error
that leads to hell. The world is rife with false Christianity:
The Prosperity
gospel (which is no gospel at all)
And so, the
list goes on. I have said in other blogs that we must be discerning, when Paul
spoke to the people of Berea, they looked at the scriptures themselves to test
what Paul was saying. There were heresies in Paul’s day that
he addressed, and there are even more in our day, and every born again man and
woman has a reasonability to stand for the truth, and correct those who have a
distorted view of the gospel. Not with our own words and opinions but with the
Word of God.
With the technology,
we have in these days it is so much easier to get sucked into error, but it is also
so much easier to find out what the errors are, and who the false movements
are. We can find out what they believe, test it with scripture, so that, as the
saying goes, "Forewarned is to be forearmed"
Paul makes it
clear that we are to have on our spiritual armour,
because the battle is a
spiritual one.
Ephesians 6:10-18
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the
full armour of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s
schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the
rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark
world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
Therefore, put on the full armour of God, so that when the day of evil
comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done
everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around
your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with
your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition
to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the
flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the
sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on
all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind,
be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of
prayers and requests.
Heretics pick and choose just what they want to
believe to suit their way of living, the truth is too confrontational for them,
they would have to address their sin, and the fact that they cannot in any way
earn, or work for salvation. Pick and mix is fine when it comes to sweets but
it is not good when we use the same application regarding salvation and
eternity.
