Warning for Christless Souls

Sentimentality doesn't get you into heaven, the cross of Christ does.

BECAUSE GOD HAS MADE NO PROMISE TO CHRISTLESS SOULS TO STAY HIS HAND ONE MOMENT. God has laid Himself under no manner of obligation to you. He has nowhere promised that you shall see tomorrow, or that you shall hear another sermon. There is a day near at hand when you shall not see tomorrow.

V. IT IS A SORE SLAUGHTER.

1. Sore, because it will be on all who are Christless.

2. Sore slaughter, because the sword is the sword of God.

Untimely mirth
Lightfoot says: "I have heard it more than once and again, from the sheriffs who took all the gunpowder plotters and brought them up to London, that every night when they came to their lodging by the way, they had their music and dancing a good part of the night. One would think it strange that men in their case should be so merry." More marvellous still is it that those between whom and death there is but a step should sport away their time as if they should live on for ages. Though the place of torment is within a short march of all unregenerate men, yet see how they make mirth, grinning and jesting between the jaws of hell!

There is only one way by which man can be saved, saved from sin, saved from guilt and shame, saved from judgement, saved from condemnation, saved from God's wrath. And that is to repent of your sins and put your faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. 

There's a Cost

I went to Derby I was on a mission for some peel off Christmas stencils to use on my cards only to find that Wilkinson no longer do them, (it was their own brand) why I didn't buy more than one at the time is beyond me, they have had so much use they are started to tear, hence my desire to purchase new ones.

I had a walk round and as I came around a corner there was this rather tall, yellow lady handing out lollipops, quite a few people went to take one but before they could take it out of her hand she had moved it to point down to a bowl on the floor, this treat was not free you had to put some money in the bowl first. Quite a few people didn't take the sweet but just walked off.

There are lot of things to entice us, we are tempted by all kinds of pleasures but very rarely does anyone tell us there will be a cost. Satan certainly isn't going to tell you that you will have to pay for the life you are leading, unlike the yellow lady pointing to her bowl he isn't going to point to the punishment that all men will receive for their sin, the greatest of which is the rejection of God's Son, Jesus Christ. Many people say, "well I don't do anybody any harm, I don't go round stealing, and committing adultery, I don't lie", really!!

Jeremiah 17:9 “The heart is deceitful above all things,
And desperately wicked;
Who can know it?

Be honest with yourself have you never told a lie? Have you never ever stolen anything? Have you never looked at a member of the opposite sex with lust? Jesus said,

Matthew 5:28 But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

That goes for the ladies too, Jesus is talking about everyone

The Bible warns us of the cost of staying in our present state, a sinner, rejecting Jesus and not accepting the free gift of salvation from God.

Galatians 6:7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.

There is not one person who can stand before God and say that he is worthy to go to heaven by his own merit for the Bible says,

Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

Just as we are punished by our own judicial system if we break the law, so God will judge everyone and those who are not righteous will be punished. The only way we can avoid this is by asking God to forgive our sins and ask Jesus into our lives, Jesus has taken the punishment for our sins, when He died on the cross at Calvary He took your place and mine so that we would not be condemned and eternally punished.

Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh but according the the Spirit.

What an exchange, my sin for His righteousness.

Think carefully, is a few moments pleasure really worth an eternity of punishment. Would you not rather have something that doesn't fade, that isn't gone in a moment? True love, true joy, true peace and lasting pleasure are all found in Christ Jesus alone, no one and nothing else can offer you what He can.

John 6:68 But Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.

Jet wash

I recently purchased a Jet wash and I must say I am quite impressed with the results, the first time I used it I promised myself that in future I would wear wellington boots and tuck in my trousers, as I got absolutely drenched, I had washed the small piece of decking I have and the backyard. I donned my wellingtons again today to jet wash the walls of the bungalow and I must admit that yet again I am more than happy with the results. 

Whilst I was doing this a little robin came and kept hopping up to the wall and taking something off I think I must have disturbed some little grubs, I'm only sorry I didn't have my camera although I did catch him later behind the shed, still grub hunting.

There was something though that the jet wash didn't manage to get off and that was the marks from an ivy plant that had grown up the wall. The ivy had been removed before I moved in.

I was reminded as I was doing this of what Jesus can do in our lives and how He can make us clean, He bore our sins at Calvary. Every person on the planet has sinned no one is exempt and as God is a holy and just God we will all be judged by Him one day. That is not a prospect to look forward too, but God in His grace and mercy put in place a plan of redemption whereby all who repent of their sin will be forgiven, and unlike this wall there is nothing left, no guilt, no shame, no scars, it is all gone. Jesus, The Son of God took the punishment for our sin that we may be saved from His judgement. And I can testify to this absolutely free, amazing grace, you can't purchase it, you can't earn it, work for it or any such thing, it is free all you have to do is say yes to this free gift, repent and ask God to forgive you, and turn from your old life to a new one in Christ.. I can assure you, you will be clean and new.

Are you feeling dirty, or shamed of the way you live, are you feeling guilty for the sin that is in your life? You don't have to stay that way, trust in Jesus and He will make you clean and new.
